Windows 8 To Usher In Cross-platform Workability

Amongst a variety of things discussed in the interview with  Microsoft’s Chief Financial Officer Peter Klein, at the Internet Conference by Goldman Sachs analyst Heather Bellini,Windows 8 was not to be left far behind. According to a video posted by Microsoft, the interview mainly consisted of Q&A session.

Excerpts from the interview are as follows:

When asked of the motive behind Windows 8′s Metro UI  Peter Klein stated,

Windows 8′s Metro interface will be part of Microsoft’s plans to bring that UI to other platforms. What we’re trying to do is develop a complete set of experiences across all device types, be they TV, tablets, PCs, phone, whatever. It’s unclear exactly what the ultimate device spectrum will be. In everything that we’re doing I think things have come together very nicely over the last couple of years.

He also mentioned of the experience of using Windows 8 would be same when used on either x86 or ARM-based hardware, however, there would be differences  “on the margin” between the two products.

Another way that Microsoft plans to link its various products together is with its merger with Skype. During the conference, Klein stated, “Skype extends that across all of our assets, whether it’s with Lync in the enterprise, or with Xbox Live. It’s something that really ties together all of our devices, a scenario that’s as universal as any.”

Microsoft’s ability to fully integrate Skype with its other properties may have hit a roadblock , as its said that, Cisco yesterday had filed an appeal in the General Court of the European Union stating that, while it isn’t opposing Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype, it would like the approval of  EU,also stating that, the purchase needs to be reviewed, with the possibility of new conditions being imposed.

Microsoft Releases Minesweeper For WP7

Microsoft has finally unveiled their own minesweeper for WP7 a couple of weeks back under the Xbox Live Flagship, one of the rare  Free releases under the Xbox Live Titles.

As its commonly known minesweeper field is far larger than a phone’s screen however,it’s pretty easy to play thanks to the simple touch controls. You can zoom out if you need to, but you can usually remain zoomed in all the time. The double-tap feature on an open square to uncover the surrounding empty mines has been carried over from the Windows Vista/7 version and works just fine on the phone. You can also switch between flag or digging mode, but you can typically stay in flag mode the whole time thanks to this feature..hence its like playing the game at the same rate as on a computer.
Different difficulty levels make this game a tedious one for sure and it’s definitely hard.
A new feature is the Speed mode, where you race against the clock. There’s also a scoring system, and power-ups, and other stuff..

However, the only problem with this game is the amount of time it takes for loading!!
It certainly checks your patience.
