It would be interesting to see the pricing of the smaller Windows 8 based tablets including this one, since the competition is intense in the smaller tablets with the likes of iPad mini,Kindle Fire HD and the Nexus 7.
We have heard some rumors about the supposed Surface tablet with a smaller form factor.Quite recently Microsoft reduced the minimum resolution requirements for Windows 8,bringing it down to 1024×768 down from previous 1366×768 resolution, indicating that the smaller Surface is in the works.
Recently Wall Street Journal ,also reported that the Surface mini with 7″ display will be released in near future. But according to Paul Thurrott(courtesy twitter),who is well known for his Windows platform and upcoming products Predictions, there will not be a 7″ Surface mini from Microsoft, but it rather would be the 8 incher Surface mini.
Be it an 8 incher Surface mini or a 7 incher Surface mini,it would be interesting to see the price point at which Microsoft releases these tablets.Because there is already an intense competition with 7 and 8 ” tablets starting as low as $199 from the likes of Amazon Kindle Fire HD and google with Nexus 7 and even the iPad mini.

Windows 8 was launched on 26th October along with the public launch of Windows RT.Last month the Operating System reached 2.67% of Worldwide PC Marketshare.
Today after a month it stands at 3.17% of Worldwide PC Marketshare as per the recent updates from NetApplications which keeps a close watch for market share of PC Operating Systems,Browser and some other internet technologies regularly.
Though it is not a brisk growth,It is good to see the growth of nee operating system from Microsoft at a cost of Windows XP which is down from 38.99% last month to 38.73% and Windows Vista which is down from 5.17% last month to 4.99% this month(March end). But Windows 7 is still keeping up with its popularity growing from 44.55% last month to 44.77% this month.
So it’s only a matter of time till we see Windows 8 in the Top 3 surpassing Windows Vista’s PC market share in a month or two.
It’s been a while since we last updated the Windows Store Statistics for the number of apps available for Windows 8 and Windows RT Platform.Last time we reported almost two months ago when the Windows Store crossed 40,000 apps mark.
Now as per the apps tracking site for Windows Store,MetroStore Scanner, the Windows Store has crossed 50,000 apps in the store (current count being 50304)with close to 35000 apps in the regional store of china which if followed by United Stares store which has almost similar number of apps in the store.
The store was growing at an astounding rate right from the launch of the Windows 8/RT last year, but over the past 2 months the growth rate has fallen considerably with the next 10,000 apps taking almost two months of time to be added to the store. Also there are many apps missing from the store. So it remains to be seen if the developers show interest in the platform in coming future or not.
Windows 8/RT had the Internet Explorer 10 as a default browser for the platform. After yesterday’s Automatic updates for Internet Explorer 10 both the browsers would run Flash by Default as per the latest blog post on IE Blog.
This decision of running flash by default on both the platforms is for the compatibility with a majority of sites which run Flash content,so that the Internet Explorer 10 users get to view flash content by default on their browsers. The Desktop version of Windows 8 Internet Explorer 10 had Flash as a default option by default right from the launch of the Windows 8 operating system.
So after this update all the Tablets and PC’s running Windows 8 and Windows RT would get Flash by default on the Immersive IE as well as the Desktop IE version of the browser.
Ever since it’s launch Windows RT has been on the receiving end of the criticism from the enthusiasts worldwide because of its limitations and many Manufacturers like Acer raised concerns about the future of Windows RT OS,which resulted in delaying their Windows RT tablet offering last year.
Now according to recent reports,Samsung seems to have had enough of the Windows RT,with weak demand in Germany for their Windows RT tablet and they would probably stop the sales of their Ativ Tab in Germany and some other European countries, after speaking to the retailers about the interest of this platform among the consumers in the country.
This is similar to what Samsung did when they decided not to launch the Windows RT based tablet in the United States due to concerns over its future.
Though there is no confirmation from the Samsung officials about any such move of stopping the Windows RT sales in Germany or other European countries. We will have to wait for the official announcement.

We knew that Microsoft will be expanding their Surface RT tablet market to 13 more countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland , starting from the 14th of february. But what was missing from the list was the name of some asian countries like Japan and India.
Now According to recent reports from Marketwatch,Microsoft is planning to launch the Surface RT tablet in Japan as early as next month. This will allow the Surface RT to compete against the manufacturers like Fujitsu and Sony who have already launched their Windows 8 based tablets in japan.
The 32 GB version of Surface RT is expected to be priced at 50,000 Yen in the japanese market.Tough there is no confirmation from Microsoft about the pricing and availability of the device in Japan,so we will have to file this under rumor section.
