Steve Ballmer was addressing shareholders annual meeting yesterday and when one of the shareholder asked shareholder asked “if we were in the post-PC era”.The statement he made after that question, has given rise to many bloggers articles around the web talking about the thing which he didn’t actually meant to say. This is what he said,
“Well one thing I know is, we’re certainly not, we are in the Windows era. We were, we are and we always will be. That’s kinda what we get paid to do. We’ve got broad Windows initiatives driving Windows down to the phone. With Windows 8, you’ll see incredible new form factors powered by Windows from tablets, small, large, pens, smaller, bigger, room-sized displays. We are in an era in which the range of smart devices is continuing to expand. That’s a fantastic thing for Microsoft. That is a real opportunity.”
So after this statement all the bloggers around the web started posting about steve confirming the Windows 8 phone totally misinterpreting the actual statement steve made during his reply. If you can carefully listen to the following recording you can easily make out that there’s a pause between the two words phone and windows 8.
At this moment all we can say that Windows 8 based phones are not coming as of now,but if you are still itching to get hands on with one of such devices then you might be interested in the ITG’s xpPhone2 which is expected to be released next year running windows 8 on it.
After the revealing of their first Windows Phones at the Nokia World last month it was expected that the first Windows Phones would eventually make it to the indian mobile phone market and today Nokia officially announced the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 for Indian Markets. Both the devices Featuring the latest Mango update of Windows Phone packed with more than 500+ features. Both the phones feature a 3.7″ Display, while the Lumia 710 features a WVGA TFT display the Lumia 800 features a ClearBlack AMOLED display, talking about the processing power well here both of them are pretty Even-Stevens with 1.4 Ghz Qualcomm processor and 512MB RAM to go with it.The Lumia 800 being the higher end device will feature 16GB of internal memory while the smaller one Lumia 710 would feature 8GB memory, the 800 would sport a 8 Megapixel display and the 710 would feature a 5 Megapixel display, both the devices would Feature The Nokia Maps.
While they haven’t yet announced any pricing details for the phones at the moment, according to the early estimates excluding the taxes the Lumia 710 would cost around 19,000 INR and the Lumia 800 would cost around 28,000 INR.The phones would hit retail stores in the mid December.
Microsoft has announced a Windows Phone event on the 7th of November. The news post on MSN also confirms that the event will see the launch of 3 additional Windows Phones running the Windows Phone 7 Series Mango update (7.5). I wonder whether Lenovo’s recently leaked phone is also going to be there. It look quite functional in the photos.
Redmond tech giant made no secret of the official launches though. The 3 phones that are going to be released are — the HTC Titan and the Focus S and Focus Flash from Samsung. The post also lets in on the specs of these phones. The Focus S will be following up the original Samsung Focus that was released last year on AT&T. It will have a 4.3inch Super AMOLED display and a 8MP camera. The Focus Flash will have the same display but smaller at 3.7inch. The aptly named HTC Titan will have the largest display of them all — a massive 4.7inch Super AMOLED display. All phones will apparently be able to shoot videos at 720p, which is great news. All three of these handsets will be exclusively available on AT&T and hence they will be available on special plans.
Amongst the officials present would be Andrew ‘Andy’ Lees (President, Windows Phone Division, Microsoft), Joe Belfiore (Corporate Vice President, Windows Phone Program, Microsoft) and several important members of the Windows Phone team. They will be on hand for those who have received backstage passes for interacting and (hopefully) answering questions. So we can expect some nice Windows Phone tidbits to come out from the event. As usual, we would be covering it right here on Windows 8 Beta
According to the MSN news piece, the invites also carry a tag line that says the 3 Windows Phones are not the only thing that Microsoft has in store for the attendees. Apparently, industry speculations suggest that there will be a newer version of Mango on these phones. Since the Mango updated was released just mere weeks back, it cannot be an actual upgrade. So it has to be a new feature that only these phones will have when they launch on November 7. 4G is already old hat and there’s already the HTC Radar 4G out there. So it has to be something else. You have to give it to the Microsoft event planners — a Window Phone 7 event on November 7th. I wonder if they will play on the number any further.
This is a ‘backstage’ event, meaning it is very exclusive and it will be more like a formal meeting than a presentation.
So far, other than Windows 8, Windows Phone has nothing really big coming up. May be better Xbox integration and that companion app we a month or so back.
It seems like Lenovo is making a Windows phone of their own. In recent times, a lot of companies who have traditionally manufactured PC’s have gotten in to making smartphones. This started happening just as the first viable platform for such OEM’s became available in the market — Android. And now that Windows Phone has received positive critical feedback from across the industry, a lot of these companies are jumping in to making Windows Phone devices. Acer is amongst the latest of such companies to announce their intention of creating a Windows phone.
Now it seems like Lenovo is also pursuing the same trajectory but without letting out the slightest hint about it. Until now that is. Photos surfaced earlier this week showing off a hitherto unseen Windows Phone smartphone device. It is allegedly called the S2 and carries a clear Lenovo branding on top below the earpiece. From what is apparent in the photo, it has a 4.3 inch display and it runs Windows 7.5 Mango. It also seems to have a front-facing camera. The shape of the device is roundish and is very similar to the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 tablet, which makes it more believable as an under-development Lenovo product.
The photo’s were posted by Winphonexap.com and they also talked about the possibility of an Android version also being in the pipeline. No specs or dates are available as of yet but rest assured that we will post about it as soon as we find out ourselves. Keep watching this space.

According to recent reports on Istartedsomthing.com a Nokia Maps app placeholder listing, with screenshots, has been discovered. With this app Nokia has once again reaffirmed its intent to release state of the art apps for its Windows Phone 7 based devices.
The screenshots of the Nokia Maps app show everything that you might expect if you have used similar smartphone mapping applications. So basically there is nothing in this app that you have not seen if you are already having a smartphone app of similar sort. The maps provides us with the options for traveling via public transport, cars or by walking to your planned destination. There is also support for reviews of locations like restaurants on the maps along with user-submitted pictures.
However, there is no such indication in the screenshots that the Nokia Maps app supports any kind of voice-controlled navigation.
Although there has been a lot of news regarding Nokia’s plans for WP7-based phones over the past few days, including some leaked hardware information about possible models, and also rumors that Nokia is ready to pay up developers in advance to make app’s for its Windows Phone 7 based devices. However,Any further advancements regarding these rumors will resolve soon enough later this month when Nokia holds its Nokia World developers conference in London.
This has been quite a busy week for the Windows Phone Enthusiasts ,first we saw the rollout of Mango update all over the world with many positive reviews over the blogosphere with the update bringing as many as 500 new amazing features to the rapidly growing ecosystem.
Last we checked for the Nokia Windows Phones front was when the Nokia Sea Ray was leaked and is expected to hit the stores by the end of this year. But t0day we are hearing about not 1 but 2 more Windows Phones from Nokia with Leaked Specifications as reported earlier today by mynokiablog.
The Second one we are hearing about is the Nokia Ace with,
Huge 4.3″ AMOLED display,8Megapixel camera,
Mango preloaded .
powered by a 1.4Ghz processor with 16GB of internal storage.
While the Nokia Sea Ray with,
Better camera than Sabre 8 MegaPixel Camera,
bigger storage at 16GB powered by Mango as well.
The Nokia Sabre is similar to the Nokia Sea Ray device in terms of specifications but it more or less looks like a mid range device while the Ace with a large AMOLED display feels like a high end affair. These devices might very well be announced at the upcoming Nokia World 2011 which is to be held on 26th October.
