Surface Pro may have around 4 Hours of Battery Life!

A few hours ago Microsoft revealed the official pricing details for its Intel based Surface i.e the Surface Pro,with the 64 GB version starting at $899 and the 128 GB version at $999.

The device features many improved features( being a pro device) like the core i5 Processor,1080P screen and other connectivity features. But as tweeted earlier by Microsoft’s Surface General Manager Panos Panay ,answering a persons query on Twitter about the battery life comparison between the Surface RT and Surface Pro.He said that the Surface Pro’s battery would be approximately half of the Surface RT.So it puts Surface Pro with around 4 hours of battery life and drags the device back to the old Laptop era with the 4-5 hours battery life devices.

With its competitors providing double the battery life for a lesser price tag(iPad devices and the Nexus tablets) this surely puts Surface Pro under a lot of pressure and a raises  lot of  questions regarding the choice of battery and the processor.

Even in comparison with its own platform puts the Surface Pro at a sales risk.Since there are already a lot of Windows 8 tablets floating around witha better battery life with the likes of Acer w510 (running Intel Atom processors)with 9 hours of battery life( doubles up to 18 hours with the keyboard)  and its bigger brother W700 with the core i3 Processor giving upto 9 hours of battery life and this is the trend for the other Windows 8 devices as well.

[Rumor]Windows Blue Update To Introduce New Update Model!

Windows. Blue has been the talk of the town even before the launch of  Windows 8, with few reports caliming that this would be the next update to Windows 8 slated for release next year.

Recent findings from TheVerge suggests that Windows Blue would introduce a new standardize approach with more regular updates for Windows and Windows Phone ecosystem. The Update is said to be having some UI changes In the platform and also the pricing of this update will be lower(or possibly even free of cost) in order to ensure that everyone install this update on their Systems.

Soon After this update release Microsoft will update the Wndows SDK Supporting the new release and will stop accepting apps Specifically built for Windows 8 and pushing the developers to move to the blue platform for apps development. However the Windows 8 apps will run on this update despite of the changes in the SDK.For upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows Blue users will need to have a genuine Windows license or the pirated Version if detected while upgrading will not allow the built in apps and Windows Store to function after the upgrade.

This is still an unconfirmed report,as none of the representatives from the company were ready to talk about this update.

[Video]Surface RT Goes Hot and Cold in Torture Test!

We have already seen a few stories of Surface RTs durability with Steve Sinofsky taking it to spin to the recent Car run over accident.Surface came out strong in both cases with a few scratches on body but still working.

So taking inspiration from these events,CNets Jeff Cannata decided to test the surface tablet to extreme torture test.

First he put the Surface tablet in a freezer for 2 and a half hours and checked out if it was working or not.Surface survived the freezer and worked smoothly. After that Jeff upped the ante and put the Surface tablet in an Oven to bake an egg! after almost an hour into 250 degrees of heat, the surface still worked well, though this time there was screen discoloration, but the tablet was still functioning.

Next up he spilled a glass of Wine on the tablet, this time around th etablet did take a beating, with the touch response gone.

In the bonus torture tests,Jeff took the surface for a spin, only this time around the casing got crached in the middle, though surprisingly the display glass was pretty solid, until he dropped it from above his head on the corner, which eventually broke the display.

The surface did survive the first two heat and cold tests and the skateboard test Jeff really took it for a crazy spin and even after that the glass was pretty much ok!So we would have to give it to surface for its exceptional build quality and we would like to advise the users not to try this at home, school or anywhere else! unless of course you want to end up loosing your money!

Windows Store Crosses 20,000 Apps Mark

Windows 8 was launched almost a month ago and with it the Windows Store had a kickstart with almost 8,000 apps at launch.

Now within less than a month later the store has reached 20,000 apps milestone,as reported earlier by WinappUpdate (on Twitter)which is monitoring the Windows Store stats for a while now.

According to their updates the Store now has 20,610 apps in total with 17,958 apps  being free, which takes the tally upto 87% free apps in Windows Store.China is still leading in regional availability with number of apps close to 14,000 apps,United States follows with 12,675 apps in their region.

So almost in a month or so the store has managed to add around 12 to 13000 more apps in the store. This is definitely a good sign for the ecosystem and more importantly of those apps there are big titles like Angry Birds Star Wars and others releasing simultaneously on multiple platforms so with quantity there are quality apps being added in the store.

Oprah Loves Surface, but likes iPad more!

Oprah Winfrey is well known for her show all over the world.Recently she prised the new Surface Tablet saying that it is One of her Favorite Things of 2012.

Quite recently She expressed the Surface love over her twitter profile, tweeting “Gotta say love that SURFACE! Have bought 12 already for Christmas gifts.” but incidently the tweet wasn’t sent from her one of the favorite things this year, but it was sent from iPad’s Twitter app.

Zagg.com spotted this from the iPhone’s TweetBot app, which was able to Pull the source of the tweet. It might also be the case because there isn’t an official app for Twitter available over the Windows Store(not counting the third party apps) so you have to give Her the benefit of doubt.

Windows 8 Play To:Microsoft’s Answer to Airplay

Microsoft recently detailed the Play To feature for Windows 8,which allows streaming of Music,Video and Photos from Windows 8 apps to Xbox and Many other supported devices on home network.

Talking about the feature on their developer blog, they explained how the developers can take advantage of this feature in their Windows 8 apps.Though there are obvious restrictions for some of the copy protected media which can’t be played using this contract but the unprotected media would work perfectly fine.

This feature is not just restricted to Windows 8 apps but the websites running in Internet Explorer 10 can also take advantage of  Play To Contract, this feature is automatically enabled for Music,Video and Photos In IE10.The browser tries to identify the best media item to use as the Play To source, favouring the  elements that are currently playing, selected, in-focus, and actively in view.IE 10 Would automatically ignore small videos/music with length smaller than 5 seconds and images with resolution lower than 300×300 pixels, these type of media will not be auto enabled. If Play To would stand out as a winner against its counterpart Airplay? Well only time will tell.
