Windows 8 latest build, build 7996

We have earlier reported that Windows 8 build 7994 has been compiled, today our sources have told that Windows 8 build 7996 has been compiled with the full build string as 6.2.7996.0.winmain.110429-1810 which states that the build was compiled on April 29. Adding to it we have got some unconfirmed information that this build belongs to pre-beta stage and the beta stage would start from Windows 8 Build 8000.

Microsoft is hosting Worldwide Partner Conference from July 10-14, 2011 and we expect the Redmond company to show some newer builds in the conference.

At present the latest build leaked is Windows 8 build 7959 and all the Windows 8 Build 7971 torrents available on net are fake so stay away from them.

Microsoft may demo Windows 8 tablet in June

According to the reports by Business Insider, Microsoft may show Windows 8 tablet demo in June this year. A source who spoke to the Business Insider says that Microsoft is following a more Apple like approach and will be using the concepts of ‘metro’ interface which was developed for Windows Phone 7.

We have already posted that Microsoft has finished with the Windows 8 Milestone 2 with the last build known as 6.2.7950.0.winmain_win8m2_escrow.110223-1820 and may have even started working on Windows 8 Milestone 3. Further according to our sources the beta version of Windows 8 is expected in late June or July which coincides with the timeline posted by Business Insider related to Windows 8 tablet.

Windows 8 may allow online backup via Windows Azure

Recently Microsoft has posted a job post on Microsoft careers site stating that they are working on a Windows Azure-based service and integrating with certain Microsoft online services and Windows 8 client backup which clearly means that Windows 8 would be have an option to backup files online via Windows Azure.

Here is what the job post reads-

The Windows Server Solutions group is under the Server and Cloud Division. Our mission is to promote adoption of Microsoft server and cloud platforms/products by using features that appeal to specific market segments. The segments we currently focus on are homes, educational institutions and small businesses. (Windows Home Server, Windows MultiPoint Server and Windows Small Business Server are our key product lines.) We work on a wide range of technologies to appeal to these segments – from kernel-level to native UI to managed UI to web services. For instance we have developed a centralized PC backup, extensible storage, UPnP-based router configuration utilities, a remote web workplace with a GFS backend and a simplified IT management UI. We are currently working on a Windows Azure-based service and integrating with certain Microsoft online services and Windows 8 client backup. Many of the features we develop have ended up in the Windows Client and Windows Server OSes.

Another job has been posted by Microsoft stating that they would be integrating Microsoft’s online service with Windows 8.

Ballmer:Microsoft will not release windows for Tablet PCs before Windows 8

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer states that Microsoft will not release specific Windows versions for Tablet PCs before the official release of Windows 8. In other words, Windows 7 will not have a single release for Tablet PCs.

Current Windows 7 interface and features support touch screen features and also did some improvements to Tablet PCs, but most of the buttons and selections rely on mouse-clicking . The use of Tablet PC pen on Tablet PCs may take some time to let the users to familiar with its operations. Apple iPad’s design is based on touch screen, and 2 month of continuously selling of iPad alone has caused Windows Tablet PCs to become dwindle.

Although Microsoft has to face strong competition due to this condition, but Microsoft didn’t plan to change or improvise their current operating system to use on Tablet PCs and also didn’t plan to release one exclusively for Tablet PCs. Ballmer directly comments the iPad, said that it is not a good tablet-based PCs, because it lacks keyboard. This, however insults themselves, because Microsoft plans to release the non-keyboard based Courier tablet PCs during the end of the year, but later cancelled the plan.

Ballmer said, “I saw a pity guy who is holding our competitor’s product (referring to Apple iPad) in the hall. But because of the lack of keyboard, he had to bend downwards in order to use it. This non-Windows based tablet PC really suffers him.” But, Wilson did not agree Ballmer’s mentioning the person as “the pity guy”. He said, “This is not the iPad’s interface’s fault, this is because Windows 7 tablet PCs are also facing the same problem.”

Microsoft’s New Record For First-Quarter Results

Microsoft announced a new record turnover of $16.2 billion for there first quarter ending Sept. 30, 2010, a 25% increase from the same period of the prior year. Operating income, net income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $7.12 billion, $5.41 billion and $0.62 per share, with increases of 59%, 51% and 55%, respectively, when compared with the prior year period.

REDMOND, Wash. quotted

“This was an exceptional quarter, combining solid enterprise growth and continued strong consumer demand for Office 2010, Windows 7, and Xbox 360 consoles and games,” said Peter Klein, chief financial officer at Microsoft. “Our ability to grow revenue while continuing to control costs allowed us to deliver another quarter of year-over-year margin expansion.”

During the quarter, Microsoft saw year-over-year growth across all business segments. Among the highlights are these:

•	Office 2010 is off to a fast start with revenue growing over 15% in its first full quarter in market.
•	Microsoft continues to see a healthy and sustaining business PC refresh cycle.
•	Xbox 360 consoles grew 38%, outselling every competing console in the U.S. for each of the past four months.
•	For yet another quarter, Bing continued to grow market share, while achieving major milestones in implementing Microsoft’s partnership with Yahoo.

“We are seeing improved business demand and adoption. Our enterprise agreement rates were strong, reflecting business commitment to Windows 7, Office 2010, and our server and database products,” said Kevin Turner, chief operating officer at Microsoft. “Customer demand and excitement for our cloud and commercial online services continue to grow as demonstrated by major new customer wins this quarter for Windows Azure and by the significant customer interest in our recently announced Office 365 service.”

Windows 8 release date in 2012 hinted by Microsoft Netherlands

Microsoft has been silent about the future Operating System,apart from the leak on the MSDN Blog a long time back there has been no news about when Windows 8 will be released, though recently Microsoft Netherlands team on the occasion of first Birthday of Windows 7, has posted on the official news site ,that Windows 8 will hit the market in about 2 years time.They have also mentioned that Windows 7 SP1 would be available in first half of next year. The page via translator reads as-

The phasing out of Windows XP, Microsoft is nearing completion. In July 2010, the support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 stops. Today Microsoft will stop selling Windows XP to PC manufacturers and the aftermarket sales of Windows Vista. For Windows 7, Microsoft Service Pack 1. This service pack is still in the testing phase and is expected in the first half of next year available. The first update of Windows 7 is the new version of Windows Live Essentials (explore.live.com) became available in mid-June. Furthermore, Microsoft is of course the next version of Windows. But it will take about two years before “Windows 8 ‘on the market. The latest news about Windows is available at www.windows.nl / blog.

If Windows 8 would be RTMed within two years then it would be interesting to see when the beta version is released,probably somewhere around June or July next year..

Windows 8 to have innovative network security feature

There is yet another job post on Microsoft career site about Windows 8 stating that the next operating system would have an innovative network security feature and the NAP team is already working on it.
