Microsoft posts a Guide for Developers to Migrate from iOS to Windows 8

Microsoft is well aware of the iOS’s dominance in the tablet business and one of the main reasons behind the success of the iOS platform has been the App Store, that’s where it all started and they are making sure that they leave no stones unturned.

Along with the release of Windows 8 consumer preview we also saw the release of Windows Store which will feature the Metro based apps that will run on the upcoming operating system. So Microsoft knows very well that to make sure that the Windows Store gets quality as well as the quantity from the app developers, they need to lure the developers with some exciting opportunities and they have done that in the past few months with contests and developer devices and with that they are also trying to help the developers Migrate from iOS to Windows 8 platform.

This case study will help the iOS developers to reimagine their apps using Metro style design principles,so that the developers can make changes according to the Metro based UI guidelines.

Recently Microsoft released a Case Study of how the developers of iOS platform can Migrate their apps to Windows 8 based Metro Style apps.

As you can see from the above diagram you can clearly make out the difference between the iOS UI of the Photo Journal app to the Metro based Photo Journal app,it shows how the app components are placed in the Windows 8 based Metro apps as compared to the iOS counterpart.

Windows Phone Marketplace Crosses 50,000 Apps,Faster than Android Market to Reach the LandMark

It was just a month ago that the Windows Phone Marketplace reached the 40,000 apps mark so by that pace anyone could have predicted that the 50,000 would probably see 2012 date, but thats not the case,Windows Phone Marketplace continues to Grow at an Astounding rate and have already reached this milestone.

As reported earlier by AllAboutWindowsPhone the marketplace have already reached the 50,000 mark.If we have a look at the competing app stores, namely the iOS based App Store and the Android Market, here are some interesting stats.

Though currently iOS and Android are the largest App stores with more than 500,000+ apps till date,if we compare all the platforms head to head,it took Android Market 18 months to achieve the 50,000 apps mark while iOS was a bit faster with 12 months,Windows Phone achieved this feat in 14 months.

Currently there are 50,126 apps in Windows Phone Marketplace which is growing at a rate of over 265 apps per day,the rate at which it’s growing its only  a matter of time till it reaches the next big landmark of over a 100,000 apps sooner than expected.

Categorically speaking  Entertainment has the largest number of apps with app count of 7,543 while the Books and References being the close second with 7,014 apps followed by Games nearing the 7,000 mark(at 6,991)percentage of Free apps in the Marketplace is 58% , while 14%  of the apps are paid with a free trial and 29% are paid.If we compare it with iOS and Android, the free / paid ratio for Android is approximately 69% / 31% and for iOS is approximately 43% / 57%.

So the ratio of free apps is better than the iOS while Android succeeds with more number of free apps,as the marketplace grows we can expect it to get near the Android ratio in terms of Free apps available.
