IDC Predicts Downfall In PC Shipments,Despite of Windows 8

Its been over 4 months since the launch of Microsoft’s new operating system,Wndows 8.The operating system crosses 60 million licenses in 2 months time And quite recently we saw that NetApplications reported that Windows 8 now holds 2.6% of Worldwide PC market share.

But according to IDC’s recent findings,PC Shipments will see a downfall of 1.3% for the year 2013 despite the Windows 8 launch and as per the findings the reason behind this downfall could be the lack of touchscreen components has contributed to a limited supply of touch-enabled Windows 8 models – being out of step with the touch focus of Windows 8, and appearing relatively expensive compared to other options.

Other reason behind the downfall is that the consumers are preferring tablet form factor over PC due to its portability.Though they are hopeful that the PC market would see a marginal growth in the second half of 2013 because many of the companies who are currently running Windows XP would probably upgrade to their new PC’s With Windows 8.

With the Windows Blue update expected to hit during the similar time frame we can expect further boost in the PC shipments.

Surface Pro and Surface RT to Expand to New Markets by end of March

Last month we saw the release of Surface Pro in the United States and Canada as well as the expansion of Surface RT in 13 new countries starting from Valentines Day.

As reported earlier on the Surface Blog,the company is all set for a major rollout by the end of this month.The Surface RT will expand to Japan,Mexico,New Zealand,Russia,Singapore and Taiwan in coming months,so this now strengthen the earlier rumors about the Surface RT launch in Japan in March.

While the Surface Pro will be rolled out to as many as 7 new countries in coming months.The countries include Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Though they didn’t specify any dates for the rollout but we can expect a detailed post on the same in coming days.This rollout will definitely help boost the Windows 8/RT tablet worldwide market share.

[Net Applications]Windows 8 Marketshare Surpasses Mac OSX,Runs on 2.67% of PC’s Worldwide

Its been 4 month since the launch of Windows 8 operating system and Within that span Windows 8 has been successful in surpassing the Worldwide marketshare of Mac OSX(including 10.8,10.7 and 10.5 version).

As per the recent findings from Net Applications,Windows 8 now counts around 2.67%(up from 2.26% last month) of total worldwide PC’s market share as of today.Which brings it to the Number 4 spot with the Top 3 spots held by Windows 7,Windows XP and Windows Vista operating system.While doing so the latest operating system crossed the marketshare of Mac OSX 10.8 which stands at 2.61% .

While Windows 7 holds the top spot with 44.55% (up from 44.48% last month)marketshare with XP at 38.99%(down from39.51% last month) and Windows Vista at 5.17% (down from 5.24% last month)market share.So the new operating system from Microsoft is gaining is gaining upon its predecessors marketshare.

We can expect Windows 8 to surpass Windows Vista in coming months and reach into the top 3 spot of the Operating System marketshare.

Windows RT Tablet Still on the Cards for Acer this Year !

Acer which is one of the Prime windows 8 hardware partners,launched two Windows 8 powered tablets last year,namely the W700 and the W510 .But the Windows RT version of the tablet was delayed as Acer wanted to have a look at how the Microsoft Surface RT fares at the market before pitching in with their own Windows RT device,which raised concerns about the launch of Windows RT tablet from Acer.

Now as per the recent reports coming from ITWorld, new Windows RT tablet from Acer is pretty much on the cards.Acer’s Oliver Ahrens, president of Europe, Middle East and Africa operations said that Acer will be releasing multiple mobile products and Windows RT will still be the part of the product line.

Though the company official didn’t share any tentative timelines for the product release,but he said that work needs to be done with the Windows RT operating system to make it appealing to the consumers.

So we could probably see an announcement from the company about their Windows RT tablet in coming months and hopefully a Windows RT tablet this year from Acer and when they do launch we can be rest assured that they will give the device a competitive price tag as we have seen with their aggressive Windows 8 Tablet pricing for their existing Tablet line up.

Fujitsu Announces Water Resistant Windows 8 Arrow’s Tablet

Fujitsu has recently announced their new tablet powered by Windows 8 operating system,the Arrows Tab Q582/F.

The Arrows Tab Q582/F has a 10.1″ display,powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 processor,to go with a 2GB of RAM.The tablet sports a 64GB SSD,but one of the most exciting features of this tablet is that it is water resistant and at around 584 grams and 9.9mm thickness,Fujitsu claims that this is the slimmest Water and Dust Resistant Windows 8 tablet.

How water resistant is it?,well just have a look at the excerpts from their press release,

With the terminal cap and slot cap tightly closed, IPX5 and IPX8 water resistance features protect the tablet from water damage. IPX5 designation indicates that the tablet can normally function after being sprayed with water from a nozzle with a diameter of 6.3 mm at a rate of 12.5 liters per minute from a distance of approximately 3 meters for a period of at least 3 minutes. The IPX8 designation indicates that the tablet will function normally after being immersed in room-temperature tap water to a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. When the terminal cap and slot caps are tightly closed IP5X dust resistance features protect the tablet from dust damage. IP5X indicates that the tablet can be left in an environment with dust particles with a diameter of 75 µm or less for 8 hours and still function and remain safe to use.

Amongst other features the device has an extended battery life of 10.3 hours during video playback,the device also support receiving speeds of upto 75Mbps and transmitting speeds of upto 25 Mbps courtesy the ultra high speed Xi communication network.

The Arrows tablet will go on sale next month with a price tag of around 125,800 Yens which translates to around $1365.

[Rumor]Windows 8 Blue to release in August with Better Search and Faster Kernel

There’s been a lot of rumors floating around lately surrounding the Windows Blue update from Microsoft.

One of the latest reports coming from Win8China,suggests that the Windows Blue update could hit the RTM around June timeframe and the public availability could be around August,while the new devices which will be releasing in the later half near to the update would probably be preloaded with the Windows Blue update.

The update will reportedly bring performance enhancement thanks to a more faster kernel and a better optimized search for Windows 8,low power consumption.,improved scaling for Modern UI apps and better windowing amongst other features.

According to the report the Milestone Preview will be available in coming months.Stay tuned for more Windows Blue Coverage.

[Rumor]Microsoft to Launch Surface RT in Japan by March

We knew that Microsoft will be expanding their Surface RT tablet market to 13 more countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland , starting from the 14th of february.But what was missing from the list was the name of some asian countries like Japan and India.

Now According to recent reports from Marketwatch,Microsoft is planning to launch the Surface RT tablet in Japan as early as next month.This will allow the Surface RT to compete against the manufacturers like Fujitsu and Sony who have already launched their Windows 8 based tablets in japan.

The 32 GB version of Surface RT is expected to be priced at 50,000 Yen in the japanese market.Tough there is no confirmation from Microsoft about the pricing and availability of the device in Japan,so we will have to file this under rumor section.
