Force Tethering(Internet Sharing) Update on Your HTC Windows Phone

Yesterday i was just surfing around the web to find out if there’s an update released for the first generation Windows Phones specifically for my HTC 7  Mozart, which enables tethering i.e Internet Sharing via Windows Phones.Caught up in discussion with some of my friends over Twitter and coincidentally as spotted earlier yesterday  by pradeep from WMPU.

Tough he got the notification yesterday itself,as we know the notifications always tend to be some what tricky and takes some time to hit on one’s Windows Phones,so today i tried the oldest and the most successful trick to force the update on my HTC 7 Mozart. So all you HTC Windows Phone owners who are eager to get the Internet Sharing update on your device here’s what you need to do.

First of all, connect your phone to your PC and open the Zune PC software, hit the update button and see if you are getting any update notifications,if you are not getting any new HTC Windows Phone update notification do the following.(keep the phone connected and the Zune Software open)

1.Hit the update button on Zune, only this time around when the software is checking for update disconnect the internet connection after 5 seconds.

2.You will now see the HTC update notification for your Windows Phone.

3.Now reconnect your Internet Connection and hit the update button to proceed further with your update.

The update with the firmware  2250.21.51007.401 would eventually be installed on your phone after the usual 10 steps update process of Windows Phone update ,duration of the update depends upon your network speed and the amount of current data in your phone, since after downloading the update it also needs to back your phone up before installing the update on your phone. .

4.After completion of the update (with 10 steps) go to settings tile of your phone and scroll down to check the Internet Sharing option on your device, from there you can configure your sharing with other devices from your Windows Phone securely.

You can connect upto 5 devices to your Wifi Internet Sharing from your Windows Phone. The updates is slowly rolling out worldwide and in some parts of the world its carrier dependent,so all those having carrier branded  HTC Windows Phone devices make sure that your carrier supports Tethering.Happy Sharing :D

Qualcomm President Elaborates Windows 8 And Windows Phone Plans

Qualcomm and Microsoft have collaborated on Windows Phone devices for the past year. Every Windows Phone device that has debuted since 2010, including Nokia’s new Lumia phones, runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile platform. However,Nokia has already announced it intends to use chips from Europe’s ST-Ericsson in upcoming Windows Phone devices. But Qualcomm President Steve Mollenkopf says the company will continue to work with Nokia and other manufacturers on Windows Phone products, forbes reports.

In an interview ahead of the company’s annual Analyst Day in New York, Mollenkopf added, “We’re quite pleased with how [the Windows Phone collaboration] is going”.He also confirmed that Qualcomm’s relationship with Nokia for Windows Phone devices is “ongoing” despite the Nokia/ ST-Ericsson tie-up.Despite the low share of Windows Phone in US markets, there is still hope for Qualcomm from the upcoming Windows 8.The much-anticipated update to Microsoft’s ‘big Windows’ operating system will be the first version of Windows to support the ARM processors which Qualcomm and other mobile chipmakers use. The move will enable Qualcomm to move beyond phones and tablets into laptops and other gadgets.
Though Windows 8 is still some months away — Microsoft won’t say exactly when it will be released — Qualcomm is already working on Windows 8 devices and applications. “We’re investing very heavily to really prepare for [Windows 8],” said Mollenkopf. He also said, ” upcoming Windows 8 devices will share certain characteristics, such as extreme slimness and portability. Windows 8 laptops could resemble Apple’s sleek MacBook Air.”

Windows 8 will not only enable Qualcomm to sell chipsets for new classes of gadgets, it also shows that smartphone-like features can and should be incorporated into non-phone devices. One example of this phone/PC crossover is Windows 8?s “connected standby” feature, which pulls data for email and social networking updates even when the device is on standby or — in the case of a laptop — closed. This “always-on” connectivity and power efficiency is a trademark smartphone feature. “That’s exactly what we talked about with smartbooks,” contends Mollenkopf. “It’s a phone use-case, now appearing in the heart of the PC market.”

Nokia Supposedly Prepping Windows 8 Tablet for Second Half of 2012

All of us know that today is the launch date of Lumia 800 ,Nokia’s First Windows Phone in some of the countries in Europe region.Nokia Partnered with Microsoft to bring the new Windows Phone ecosystem to a new level a few months ago and is working hard to make it a successful one.

Now a new rumor has surfaced which reveals Nokia’s plans to get into the Windows 8 market with their version of Windows 8 based tablet according to a french windows phone website.According to the site apparently a French news paper caught up with Nokia France Head Paul Amsellem who reportedly revealed the future plans for Windows 8 tablet from Nokia is on the cards and that we can expect the first Nokia branded Windows 8 tablet as early as June 2012.

Also revealing the plans for some higher end as well as lower end Windows Phones from Nokia to take the Lumia series a step further. For what all of us know by far is that Windows 8 is expected to hit in the Q3 of 2012 ,so the date mentioned by the french site looks quite an infeasible one,but you never know, strange things happen!

If this turns out to be true,Nokia would eventually have to compete with the biggies like Samsung,Dell,HP who are well settled in the tablet business already,so Nokia would have to pull something huge if they want to withstand the competition.

Ballmer’s Speech Misinterpretated,No Windows 8 Phone As of Now

Steve Ballmer was addressing shareholders  annual meeting yesterday and when one of the shareholder asked shareholder asked “if we were in the post-PC era”.The statement he made after that question, has given rise to many bloggers articles around the web talking about the thing which he didn’t actually meant to say. This is what he said,

“Well one thing I know is, we’re certainly not, we are in the Windows era. We were, we are and we always will be. That’s kinda what we get paid to do. We’ve got broad Windows initiatives driving Windows down to the phone. With Windows 8, you’ll see incredible new form factors powered by Windows from tablets, small, large, pens, smaller, bigger, room-sized displays. We are in an era in which the range of smart devices is continuing to expand. That’s a fantastic thing for Microsoft. That is a real opportunity.”

So after this statement all the bloggers around the web started posting about steve confirming the Windows 8 phone totally misinterpreting the actual statement steve made during his reply. If you can carefully listen to the following recording you can easily make out that there’s a pause between the two words phone and windows 8.

Lenovo Making Windows Phone? Leaked Images Of Lenovo S2 Windows Phone Smartphone Surface

lenovo-s2-windows-phone-leaked-imagesIt seems like Lenovo is making a Windows phone of their own. In recent times, a lot of companies who have traditionally manufactured PC’s have gotten in to making smartphones. This started happening just as the first viable platform for such OEM’s became available in the market — Android. And now that Windows Phone has received positive critical feedback from across the industry, a lot of these companies are jumping in to making Windows Phone devices. Acer is amongst the latest of such companies to announce their intention of creating a Windows phone.

Now it seems like Lenovo is also pursuing the same trajectory but without letting out the slightest hint about it. Until now that is. Photos surfaced earlier this week showing off a hitherto unseen Windows Phone smartphone device. It is allegedly called the S2 and carries a clear Lenovo branding on top below the earpiece. From what is apparent in the photo, it has a 4.3 inch display and it runs Windows 7.5 Mango. It also seems to have a front-facing camera. The shape of the device is roundish and is very similar to the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 tablet, which makes it more believable as an under-development Lenovo product.

The photo’s were posted by Winphonexap.com and they also talked about the possibility of an Android version also being in the pipeline. No specs or dates are available as of yet but rest assured that we will post about it as soon as we find out ourselves. Keep watching this space.
