Windows Phone Marketplace Crosses 50,000 Apps,Faster than Android Market to Reach the LandMark

It was just a month ago that the Windows Phone Marketplace reached the 40,000 apps mark so by that pace anyone could have predicted that the 50,000 would probably see 2012 date, but thats not the case,Windows Phone Marketplace continues to Grow at an Astounding rate and have already reached this milestone.

As reported earlier by AllAboutWindowsPhone the marketplace have already reached the 50,000 mark.If we have a look at the competing app stores, namely the iOS based App Store and the Android Market, here are some interesting stats.

Though currently iOS and Android are the largest App stores with more than 500,000+ apps till date,if we compare all the platforms head to head,it took Android Market 18 months to achieve the 50,000 apps mark while iOS was a bit faster with 12 months,Windows Phone achieved this feat in 14 months.

Currently there are 50,126 apps in Windows Phone Marketplace which is growing at a rate of over 265 apps per day,the rate at which it’s growing its only  a matter of time till it reaches the next big landmark of over a 100,000 apps sooner than expected.

Categorically speaking  Entertainment has the largest number of apps with app count of 7,543 while the Books and References being the close second with 7,014 apps followed by Games nearing the 7,000 mark(at 6,991)percentage of Free apps in the Marketplace is 58% , while 14%  of the apps are paid with a free trial and 29% are paid.If we compare it with iOS and Android, the free / paid ratio for Android is approximately 69% / 31% and for iOS is approximately 43% / 57%.

So the ratio of free apps is better than the iOS while Android succeeds with more number of free apps,as the marketplace grows we can expect it to get near the Android ratio in terms of Free apps available.

Rage Against Android On Twitter, Win A Windows Phone!

Are you a disgruntled Android phone user? Do you fee like raging and shouting about it? Well, now it is time to benefit form that urge and win a Windows phone in the process. In its latest marketing stunt, Microsoft has decided that a free Windows Phone giveaway is not good enough. Why give them away to good people for praising your product when you can give them away to people who can malign the competition.

After holding other giveaways, the Windows Phone maker now wants you to talk about all your bad experiences with Android on Twitter for a chance to win an Windows Phone. Started by Microsoft’s Windows Phone evangelist Ben Rudolph, this contest urges you to share your malware stories using the hashtag #droidrage for a chance to win a brand new #windowsphone. As to which Windows Phone you actually stand to win, Ben has not been clear on that although many are hoping that it is a brand new Nokia Lumia 800. This phone is arguably the flagship model across the entire line of Windows Phones and clearly the most coveted one.

Microsoft Ben Rudolph Windows Phone Giveaway #droidrage

Microsoft's Ben Rudolph Tweet About The Givaway And Various Reactions

If you look at the screenshot above, you will see that this contest has generated a mixed response from the crowd. Taken at the time of writing, this offer from Ben has gotten some android problem stories across whilst quite a few people are calling it a cheap publicity stunt by Microsoft to gain more exposure. However, depending on the responses it might just turn out to be a brilliant marketing ploy also. So long as it works in favor of the company, it is a success. The average  consumer does not think about all this. All they see is an opportunity to grumble about a problem and stand a chance to win a shiny new gadget in return. When you distill it down to that level, it is a pretty effective strategy to turn your competitor’s consumers against them and win the same consumers to your side. And this is also a good time to do it so that people have some retention of the brand when Windows 8 is launched by mid next year. Hopefully, Windows Phone 8 will not be far behind either.

Interesting problems so far include an LG2X phone resetting it self and a rebooting during a call to a service number to fix a rebooting problem! Another tweet says the users phone short circuited the SD card. That is probably a hardware problem but that’s the advantage of mudslinging — it will all get blamed on Android. So this campaign might pay off for Microsoft after all because after Android, the only place left to go right now is Windows Phone and sure looks good and most importantly — affordable.

This offer is presumably only open to US residents. However, since Ben has not mentioned that in his tweets, he might be able to offer some to residents of other countries as well. After all, if he wants to make an impact, ignoring the Asian market would not be wise. So if you want your #droidrage to be heard, tweet it to @benthepcguy.

Samsung Omnia W Shows up on Flipkart! India Launch Imminent

It’s raining Windows Phones in India.Last week we saw the Lumia 800 pre orders, yesterday we reported about Lumia 710 coming to india in 7 days and now it seems like Samsung doesn’t want to miss the bus.

Flipkart one of the prime online seller in india has just posted a Samsung Omnia W page to add to their listing of mobile phones.Though the pricing details are not revealed at the moment.Though  we already know the official price tag to be 19,900 INR announced earlier by Samsung India,we can expect a still lesser price point approximately between 17,000-18,000 INR for the stores across india.

Last we heard from Windows Phones India on their facebook page they hinted a release date similar to the Nokia Lumia i.e Mid December for both the devices,so we can expect the device to be launched within the next week or so.

Samsung Omnia W is the second generation Windows Phone from samsung, sports a 3.7″ Super AMOLED Screen, powered by 1.4Ghz processor,8 GB of Internal Memory and features a 5 Megapixel rear and 0.3 Megapixel front camera as well. The device is powered by the latest Windows Phone Mango update. This device will be up against the likes of Nokia 710 and HTC Radar in the similar price category, but it clearly stands out as a winner with price to performance ratio when compared with the HTC’s and Nokia’s Windows Phone counterparts.

[Rumor]Windows 8 To Bring Beaming Support to Devices

Rumors and Windows 8 goes hand in hand. There’s at least one rumor every week for Windows 8 over the web,to add to the list here comes one more,as spotted earlier by liveside that Microsoft is bringing back its Zune feature “squirting” to transfer files across Windows 8 ,Windows Phones and Xbox  according to a recent tweet courtesy @MS_Nerd Which reads :

@MS_Nerd Ooh. Zune “squirting” to make a come back on Microsoft’s 3 screens with NFC, Bluetooth and WiFi Direct pairing, to be called “beaming” now.

According to MS_Nerd Microsoft is preparing a beaming feature which will combine Bluetooth, NFC, and Wi-Fi Direct pairing to enable direct file transfers between devices across the “three screens” means Windows Phones,Windows 8 and Xbox.A similar feature can be found in the good’ol Zune 30 devices which had a squirting feature.

So when Microsoft releases Windows 8 and possibly Windows Phone 8(codenamed apollo ) next year along with a new generation Xbox (720) using this Beaming technology easy file transfer  can be achieved. The video show below features demonstration of beaming technology which could eventually make way to the Windows Ecosystem allowing us to transfer data seamlessly amongst Windows 8 tablets-laptops,Xbox and Windows Phones.

[Exclusive] Nokia Lumia 800 Priced at 29,990 INR in India

It was just yesterday when we first reported that Nokia Priority stores in India are taking pre orders form Lumia 800. Today Nokia has started accepting pre orders for Lumia 800 online as well. You can pre order Lumia 800 here- http://www.getnokia.in/

Though the official details regarding the price of Lumia 800 isn’t available till now but was expected to be around the 28,000 INR mark, but it seems that due to recent spikes in the Dollar to Rupee conversion it has affected the prices of the Lumia 800.According to fellow developer Nirmit Kavaiya who visited the Nokia Priority store has  just confirmed that Nokia Lumia 800 would be priced at 29,990 INR (Around $585).

Lumia 800 is expected to be released somewhere in mid December in India though we don’t have any information about Lumia 710 and even Nokia hasn’t started online pre orders for the same. The phone would go head to head against the biggies like the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note and other dual core androids from HTC and LG.

If we compare the phones price with the competing one’s this one looks overpriced as compared to the others,so it’s high time for Nokia to rethink about the price structure if they want to regain the lost marketshare in Indian market which is crowded with tons of android alternatives and cheap brands like Micromax who are bringing high end phones for dirt cheap prices, like the recent Micromax Superphone which is priced under 20,000INR. Even the competitors within the Windows Phone market like Samsung Omnia W and HTC Radar are priced less than the Lumia series,so a price drop is expected sooner rather than later.

Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 Preorders Start in Nokia Priority Stores Across India

The Wait is Finally over ! After official announcement last month in India,Nokia is finally all set to launch their first Windows Phones in India. The Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 are now officially available for Preorder across the Nokia Priority stores across the country.

There are no official pricing announcement but the Lumia 800 is expected to be around the 28,000-29,000 INR mark while the Lumia 710 is expected to be around the 22,000 INR mark as spotted  earlier today  by abhishek baxi from ILPW.The phones are now up for the pre orders over the Nokia Priority stores with 1,000 INR register amount for the device.

The Phone itself is expected to be released by Mid December according to Windows Phone India’s official facebook page. While the Lumia 800 is a high end Windows Phone with 3.7″  AMOLED Capacitive display  powered by Windows Phone Mango update and 1.4Ghz processor with Adreno 205 GPU to go with 16GB of internal storage, also sports an 8Megapixel camera with Dual LED Flash, the Lumia 710 which looks like rather a stripped down version of 800,sports a 3.7″ LCD Capacitive display with Mango update while the CPU and GPU remains the same for this one as well the internal memory is 8GB as compared to Lumia 800′s 16GB.Sports a 5Megapixel camera with LED Flash.

While the Nokia 800 will be up against the High end Dual core android competitors like Optimus 2X and Samsung Galaxy SII the lower end Lumia 710 would be competing against the likes of Samsung Omnia W and HTC Radar,of which HTC Radar is already available in the market, while the Omnia W is also expected to be released later this month.

[Rumor]New Xbox 360 model In the Works for Windows 8,Scheduled for 2012 Holiday Season

A New rumor has surfaced today in the Xbox 360 front and we are not talking about the successor to current Xbox 360 in the market but an upgraded version which would be designed keeping Windows 8 in mind.

As reported earlier by winrumors today, Michael Pachter,Wedbush Securities analyst believes that the new Xbox 360 is being prepared by Microsoft for the holiday season of 2012 that would operate Windows 8 operating system which is also slated to be released around the same time next year. This new Xbox 360 would be an upgraded version of current one and not the much rumored Xbox 720 the  successor to Xbox 360  which is in the talking for a while now.

This is what Michael Pachter, said about the expected hardware update for Xbox 360 to operate Windows 8,

“I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8,”. “I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don’t think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014.”

The update to existing dashboard of  Xbox 360 is expected in a few days and the Metro Styled Dashboard would hit Xbox 360 in December. As we already know that Microsoft is planning to bring closer integration of Xbox Live Services to a PC user can play multiplayer game with the Xbox 360 user and a Windows Phone user asynchronously.
