Microsoft Using “Modern UI Style” Instead of “Metro Style” For Apps

Last week we reported about Microsoft re-branding the Metro UI after talks with their European partners.Though there wasn’t any confirmation about what term  they would choose to replace the Metro UI.Recently some of the reports indicated that the “Metro-style applications” would be referred to as “Windows 8 applications” and that the “Metro UI” will be renamed to “Windows 8 UI”.

But now as reported earlier by TheVerge, the company’s employees have instead started using the “Modern UI Style” for the Windows 8 Start Screen User Interface and referring Modern UI design for Windows 8 Apps.

Recently there were references made to this new term in some of the upcoming events from the Software Giant referring the Modern UI Style and Design Language.Though the official announcement from Microsoft is still awaited for the replacement of the term Metro UI.

We will keep you posted about this and other interesting Windows 8 Scoop,in our special coverage as we inch closer to the Mega release on 26th October.

I think Modern UI works just fine but why not Mosaic UI.

    • Joe

because a mosaic is an odd looking shape, not square. Metro/Modern tiles are square.

      • Jake

metro/modern is not a shape you can’t say they are square… if you put tile is the only word hinting at square so one could say mosaic tile and it would have the same meaning as modern tile

      • Pras

        Mosaic is also square

Modern UI? wow, looks like they had their best brains on this one :/ what about when it’s been out for 5yrs, how is it still modern?

I dunno how they come up with such major decisions and changes to those decisions. Must be a complex process making it impossible to come up with anything good..

A computer system using windows.. I KNOW!! Let’s call it WINDOWS?!
A search engine/information suite to combat Google – LET’S CALL IT BING (omg awful)
    Metro?Modern? nah, windows 8 ui , now THAT’s a great name!
    Stupid stupid stupid..

Odd that windows 8 UI has NO WINDOWS.. They should have probably called it Touch UI or something else equally obvious and correct.

Sorry for the caps, the adrenaline made me do it
