Microsoft Windows has been the prime operating system for over the past few years now for the desktop PCs and now with the release of Windows 8 Microsoft is getting into the Tablets territory which is currently lead by apple with their iOS based iPad tablet, with the introduction of Windows 8 tablets from many manufacturers like Samsung,Dell,Acer and the latest entrant in the manufacturing business is the software giant itself, which announced their first manufactured tablet with the series of Surface Tablets.

So its about time for some predictions, this one comes from the Microsoft itself.Antoine Leblond, the head of Windows Web Services at Microsoft recently at the TechEd keynote which was held in Europe made a prediction about what he feels that would be the result of Windows 8 release.

Leblond said,

“Everything used to be desktops, now 60 percent of PCs sold are laptops. Next year, tablets will outsell desktops”.he added to that,

“Windows 8 is an old and new bet. Windows 7 was really rooted in the last generational change of Windows, which was Windows 95. [Windows 8 is] a generational change in Windows. But it’s still Windows. Everything you could do before, you can still do in Windows 8.

“You don’t have to compromise. It works equally well in a managed or an unmanaged environment, or a mixed environment. You don’t have to choose between the device you want [and the corporate device] you’re given.”

During the keynote Leblond also demonstrated some region specific apps for the Europe region which included apps like UK National Rail app and the Vodafone Metro  app. The  Windows To Go feature was also demonstrated which allows the Windows 8 to boot directly from a USB drive.

Though this is too early to predict anything about the future Tablet market share, but with the announcement of Surface Tablets by Microsoft it is going to be an intense battle amongst the arch-rivals.
