Acer Has No Plans for Non Tablet Based ARM Devices for Windows 8

Yesterday we reported about two of the Acer’s upcoming Tablets namely the Iconia W700 and its smaller brother W510.We also saw the revelation of the Asus Tablet 600 which is based on the new WinRT platform.WinRT i.e Windows on ARM is one of the much anticipated release which will also release along with the conventional x86 based Windows 8.

So many of the companies will come up with their version of ARM based tablets when windows 8 releases later this year.Though one of the major concerns is that if the ARM platform can expand its reach from Tablets to the Desktop’s and the Laptops.

Recently Reuters reported about Acer’s plans for ARM based Windows 8 devices. The world no. 4 company’s chairman  JT Wang said that there are no plans for a non Tablet based device running on ARM based processor.

JT Wang said,

“Finally the couple (Windows and Intel) recover their relationship,”  “We are more familiar with the Windows ecosystem, our supply chain is also mainly in the Window ecosystem.”

“According to engineer studies, unless we go into ARM 64-bit, otherwise performance is still not so great,” he said. “ARM is a newcomer, young and attractive but it takes some time.”

So the companies are still hesitant about the performance of ARM based processors on large systems,so as of now we might only see ARM based tablets and it would take some time for ARM to get into the Desktop and Laptop Business.
