Analysts: Windows 8 Privacy Issue Not a Major Concern

Windows 8 final release might be a few months from now,but that didn’t stop the enthusiasts and the early adopters from checking it out, with the release of Consumer Preview earlier this year users got a glimpse of what we can expect from the next Windows version, the features, the User Interface and lots of other things.

As we all know there’s now a trend of S0cial Connectivity for not just the PC and tablet platforms but the mobile platforms as well and windows 8 is one of them, with lots of features connecting you with your friends over social networking sites like Twitter,Facebook etc.

One of the concerns raised about the privacy issues with these kinds of features on Windows 8,which was reported earlier by Infoworld is that Windows 8 contacts keeps the cache of all the source social networking sites on the machine and it remains in the machine even after the user logs himself out from that particular site.So anyone who accesses your PC with Administrative privileges can get hold of that information.

But according to Analyst Michael Cherry who is the lead analyst of Directions on Microsoft, the privacy issue in Windows 8 is overblown. He states,”My sense is that Microsoft will take some steps to remedy any issues, but in the area of privacy, the remedy may simply be to tell people that their information is shared among the services.”

One of the reasons the cache is used is the high performance social integration with such social networking sites with Windows 8,and according to Mark Baldwin, principal researcher and consultant at InfosecStuff, its not a greater risk with Windows 8,he states that Windows 8 “is more tightly integrated with social media, it makes sense to cache that data to improve performance. As the author noted, one must have admin rights to view this data for a user other than yourself.”

So unless and until a user gives administrative privileges to a non trustworthy person, its not a major concern and one can always flush the cache if they feel insecure about it.
