As reported earlier by Win8China,Microsoft is going to Metrofy the existing Ribbon UI in the Windows Explorer in the Release Candidate version of Windows 8 which is rumored to be released in the month of June.It was quite evident right from the release of the Windows 8 Developer Preview and then Consumer Preview that Microsoft is embracing the Metro UI with the new Start Screen and ditching the Start Menu from the previous versions of Windows operating system, though keeping a separate desktop mode for users who prefer the conventional Windows desktop.

These leaks if turns out to be true, would mean that somewhere in near future Microsoft will slowly modify the Ribbon UI in the Windows explorer to be more on the Metro Side.

Good choice indeed. A generalization of the interface. :)

I just compared that screen shot with the ribbon interface in my copy of the Consumer Preview and have no idea what the difference is. Somebody please enlighten me…

No more gradients or rounded edges, which are in the CP.  Subtle.

Thanks. I figured it out a little after posting my question. Very subtle, but those are the kind of visual congruities do make a difference to the overall feel.

I’ve been constantly telling Microsoft to do this on the Win 8 blog. I like to think i possibly had something to do with this change LOL.

Because Office 15 has a very nice Metro style Ribbon. Yet Win 8 itself had a Ribbon that looked like it was from Vista/7, it just didn’t go with 8 at all. Glad they changed it, as making the desktop more Metro styled helps a lot when switching between the new Start Screen and Desktop, it’s less jarring.

If they don’t make Metro and option I won’t try RC… and won’t be using Windows 8.
