Windows 8 Activation Protection Creates Panic between OEM’s and ODM’s

Microsoft’s upcoming version of Windows the Windows 8 final release might take some time for release but the new Activation Process for the newly designed Opearting System is already creating panic situation for the ODM’s and OEM’s .

The new verification system for Windows 8 – OA 3.0 is incurring  additional costs for ODMs and which would eventually result in  ODM’s charging a heavy manufacturing charges to the Brand vendors for the same.

For the OA 3.0, Microsoft plans to pre-install the Windows 8 operating system into PC’s BIOS and will have consumers key-in the authorization key to activate the software through an Internet connection and will completely abandon its previous method of using a COA label, according to Digitimes sources Report.

This new method would require additional time for Windows 8 installation as compared to the previous method and would cost more since microsoft will charge fees as per number of installations and as the technicians would also require to undergo training.

Microsoft is taking these measures keeping in mind the crackers agenda towards cracking new upcoming operating systems,as the history of previous Windows releases suggests it was prone to the crackers attacks bypassing the Microsoft’s OEM activation certificates.

That’s amusing… how they’re going this far just to prevent cracking… however, it is even more amazing if anyone manages to crack the operating system at this level of protection.

The more Microsoft try to qoute “secure” it’s operating systems the more people get pissed and move to Mac and Linux. Basically this is the achilles heal of the US. total self interest no longer works. China and India use Linux its free and works.

      • Anonymous

Only 1% of computers use Linux, even with it being completely free. And you know why? Because it’s SHIT.

As for OSX, thats far more of a closed system than Windows, and less secure. So how is MS making there OS even more secure going to make people switch? You idiot.

        • Anonymous

Uh… no.  People don’t use Linux because they don’t know about it / don’t know how to use that “black colored window with white text.”

EDIT: Then again, you probably had a bad experience with Linux.

          • Kukulkan

idiot. when last did u use linux?? kernel version 1.5???
use openSUSE,RedHat or any other stable version of Linux and u wil realise u r mistaken. The graphics are better than Win 7, resource utilisation is better, security is better, no viruses, bigger repository of native device drivers…do u want me to on?IDIOT

I’m talking about the fact that people still have o use the command line at some point. However, Ubuntu is doing a good job at making sure the user only needs to use the command line interface sparingly to the point where a common user doesn’t see that “black window with white text” at all. However, the main reason is because consumers are too stubborn to change to a different OS.

Also, exactly WHERE did I say that Windows is better than Linux? As far as I know, I only said that the reason why Linux isn’t used widely on home computers is because people don’t know about Linux or are too afraid to touch the command line interface, and that the person who said that Linux is crap is mistaken. However, you decided to assume that I was ATTACKING Linux.

In fact, I should be the one calling YOU an idiot for not reading my post correctly.

          • BoomHeadshot

That’s a joke, right? A big f*cking joke, I hope? Seriously? Having to use a command window to install the god damned tor is “making sure the user only needs to use the command line interface sparingly to the point where a common user doesn’t see that “black window with white text”"? Not to talk about flash.

And Ubuntu is one of the worse distros available. They weren’t defenitely talking about Ubuntu, otherwise they couldn’t be talking about resource optimization(Either that or they are complete dumbfucks). To the people who talked about resource optimization and etc, you probably never used flash on linux(Like Richard Stallman who despite being a genious, is so crazy about security, he doesn’t even navigate web like a normal person).

I have nothing more to say.

AAGH.  Anything I say causes people to insult me.  I’m just going to go back to lurking again.

          • BoomHeadshot

I actually wasn’t even trying to offend you. It’s just my way to express, I’m sorry that I have offended you, then.
Most of my “rage” was towards *nixboys, though. They can’t and don’t even try to realise that there are actually people using Windows because they want to.

Not because they’re dumb and need to “be shown the light”. Not because they don’t know about linux. But because it’s the best for them. And it’s the best for me too. For all the reasons in the world.

IMHO Linux users are so busy being different and superior that they miss out everything else. I mean, who the heck doesn’t like to play some games and not having to care about manually installing programs?

          • Anonymous

I see.  Sorry for misinterpreting what you said earlier.  I think I was still aggravated from Kukulkan insulting me and saying I was an “idiot,” so I responded harshly.  Anyway, I didn’t really spend a lot of time on a Linux distro, so the opinion I posted earlier might have been flawed.  However, I probably should have mentioned that Ubuntu is doing a good job making sure typical users who use their computers for basic tasks do not see the command line, because you ended up misinterpreting what I said due to me not being specific enough.

Also, I’m going to restore the text I deleted.

Ubuntu is 3rd most used os  Mac has no software for people to say linux is crap is just stupid. i used to think linux was stupid but now i dont i use it…..  linux is like  most stable os on the market

        • Sdffsdf

Wrong, dood. Keep trolling, but you’ll still be wrong. That is the fault of your life form – you’re a failure.

          • Anonymous

Aww cant handle the truth you silly little fanboy. Everyone knows of Linux by now and yet it still only has 1% market, because it’s simply shit.

        • Brecker

Linux is —??? Really, I have a job because Microsoft’s OS has so many issues…. I run Linux on my Lenovo tablet, I use VMWare, Open-E and other server applications built on Linux, and all are 100 times more stable..

You probably couldn’t install a Linux OS no matter how easy they make it.

          • Anonymous

I’ve used about 7 different Linux Distros. All of them no better than the 10 YEAR OLD Windows XP. And no more stable.

If you think MS OS’s have many issues then look at how many Linux has. Even BASIC things like video drivers and capabilities of the OS are limited and broken. You cant even get full hardware acceleration for web browsers. Linux is a mess and this is why no one still uses it after many many years! For business or work use it’s a joke!

          • http://twitter.com/NomadeWolf A B

you have not use Linux Mint. Or you wouldn’t be saying that.
Linux is a shock. No matter how good it is, it is different and different is hard. I was a very violent thing for me to abandon Windows in favour of Linux. I like to compare it to the new office ribbon, it sucks at first, but when you get used, it’s way better.
            Linux Mint is like that.

          • James Phillips

Just because Linux is not compatible with major programs and games etc, it’s not a bad thing.

Linux is primarily aimed at a more experienced user. And judging by the fact that you can’t even get video drivers working suggests that you might have just had a bad experience as you don’t know how to use it.

I could never abandon Win7 for Linux as I use commercial software and games that won’t run without Windows OS components. However, Linux is still far more reliable in the workplace as a server or even a workstation as it is far lighter on resources and, when properly configured by someone who knows what they are doing, very stable.

        • Linux Does It All

I’m from India and I and use linux every day for everything I need to do, even when win xp and win7 are installed in other partitions.
Linux is simple, has got it all and is hassle free.

as far as percentage of linux computers are concerned I personally think it is much higher(around 10% or higher) over here as every school and college is moving towards open source.

I guess this means that now, we have to buy a new motherboard to get Windows 8.  Oh wait, that would hurt Microsoft’s sales because people have to buy a new motherboard just to get Windows 8.  This protection seems to be more about defeating unauthorized OEMs that use cracked software on their computers.  End-users will most likely still have the standard WGA antipiracy protection.

  • Lordvyper

Don’t worry about “if”, its just a matter of “how long until”.

    • Kiroa

Exactly what I thought. Although I don’t know what kind of challenge this poses to crackers, it will probably slow them down…But definitely not stop them.

  • Andrewcordova85

Is going to get cracked either way.

  • Yusoffgazee

Long as they are man-made.. nothing is impossible !!

  • B0SS

Spell Check…It’s there for a reason.

  • Filippo333

Just face it Microsoft, no matter how hard you try to tie up the operating-system in crap, crackers will find a way, and you cannot stop them, sorry.

    • Tal Tamir

Sure they can, they just have to limit a user’s access via hardware.
No sane person will buy it but they have been pushing hard for laws to require all computers sold to include such hardware. Read about trusted computing and hope they never win.

Privacy issues notwithstanding, it sounds like a pretty straightforward process – hard to see why it would require so much time and training!

Microsoft you wont get bankrupt because of piracy…

  • Jow

Ahh greedy Microsoft. As usual, all cracker/hacker will have an easy go with the new Windows 8. The only people who will suffer are those who will buy it.

Work nicely done M$! As I always say: Why give paying user an advantage over hackers anyways =)!

Part of me wants to take a wait and see approach to this, but overall I don’t like it.  Microsoft’s latest activation practices make it very hard for me–the small guy–to experiment and to build my own machines without great expense.  Linux has now become a part of our home.  We also have a few Macs that are bullet proof.  I haven’t seen any of the security issues people are talking about.  I also haven’t seen a lack of freedom.  We can edit videos, burn CDs, listen to music, write articles, browse the web, run web servers and do everything that Windows can do with much more stability.  More and more of our friends are lusting after and buying Apple computers.  It’s good to have them as part of our stable.

Only a single machine still run Windows, and only because it’s the gaming box.  Who wants to have to worry about finding a key or having parasitic anti-virus software everywhere when we just want to get the machine up and going?  Even our two Mac computers don’t have this problem; as long as you have the DVD, it’s good to go on any Mac.  I’d rather donate whatever money I would’ve spent on Windows to open source projects.  They run fine for what we want to do.  Those guys are also very passionate and they do great, interesting work on Sourceforge and github.  Some open source projects, like Coreboot, have just about blown me away.  Can anyone say build your own cluster at home.

As far as the comments about Linux being hard to use, I disagree.  Some of our older laptops have been running fine for the last couple of years with Ubuntu.  We can experiment to our heart’s content without worry about that activation nonsense.  If we need to use Windows, there is always Virtualbox.  It’s bad when you have less and less Windows machines in your home because it is just becoming too hard to justify the expense on an operating system for all the machines we have.  Just continue to chase us away, Microsoft.  You guys will be just another corp trying to hang on by a thread, while locking in the remaining users more and more.

    • John

Yes but don’t forget that if Microsoft crashes and burns which will definitely take a long time, virus coders will have to find something else to infect. It would be especially disastrous when they aren’t ready and are confident of having no viruses.
Don’t forget how little of modern games actually work on these compatibility layers. And those that do work, work poorly.

  • Emildk11

teehee good for me that the danish goverment has made a new agreement so that danish people will get windows and photoshop and office and what ever software they will like to have for free keep in mind this does only mean windows, photoshop etc etc
