As promised earlier today at the Build Conference,The developer preview is up for grabs now on the newly launched Developer site.There are two kinds of builds available over the Developer site.First is with Developer tools and a 64 Bit version while the other version is Without the Developer tools in 32 bit as well as 64 bit version.


Here are the details of the Developer Builds that are up now on the site dev.windows.com

      I could not get AVG to install either. Just Google Microsoft Security Essentials. It’s free anti virus from Microsoft and works fine.

    for people who has problems with the iso file : CHECK FILE SIZE! must be 2,962,468 KB = 2,9 GB !

    Yeah, this looks like windows alright. Give it five years and it will be as good as WinXP.  Back to Linux now. Well, except Ubuntu, it appears MS and Cononical are working together to bring the hand held device garbage to our desktops. What an improvement. Right.

    Did a clean install, and it worked Just fine, it is real buggy but I think it will be good when they finish it. It does run a lot faster than windows 7 and a lot of new features that are pretty cool, very informative and fun, it is a work in progress, so don’t be so Judgmental, the older operating systems were the same way when they were released, remember?

    Some People need to get educated. Operating systems are NOT so fragile. Installing this in a SEPERATE partition does nothing to the other. For example: I have windows 7 on 1 partiton and on another I have installed a few windows 8 builds before installing this developer preview. I have never lost my windows 7. Use EasyBCD to help with boot problems. This Can be used as a stable OS (amazingly) if you update everything and download nessicary programs. I never had a problem with this OS .

    i have an early build of 8 running on an OLD fujitsu laptop/tablet. touch screen etc all works. so much smoother and faster than xp pro! currently dloading latest build to throw on another old fujitsu…

    I was able to get the installation.  Extreme PC is right, there’s a few bugs, however, I have patience with releases like this.  Not too bad so far, need to spend more time with it.  Oh, I am using vmware and as long as I partition enough resources, it’s fine.  Again, FYI

    I just downloaded the 64 bit version tonight, burned the dvd, and went off to install it. After going through the format disk option, the program hanged at copying files at 0% for 20 minutes. I decided to reboot my machine with a big surprise waiting for me. It ruined my ADATA SSD. My SSD is shot and no its not my power, channel or user error. The first time this version of the os wasted 5 dvds trying to burn it, this time a SSD. Welcome to Windows 8 aka Windows 8 Fail.

    I haven’t installed it yet, but when I do, it’s going to be on a clean hard drive. If I use VMware at all, it will be the reverse way the other poster tried it. That is to say, I might run XP under VMWare. I have a long term project that still has graphic drawing the were created  under Windows  3.11  drawing problems. But ultimately, XP support is scheduled to end in 2 years. The question for me is whether Windows 8 will solve this problem for me, and others, withliterary projects which have been ongoing for decades.

    Can you people running the Win. 8 Dev. preview please make a version that (for test purposes ONLY) has no (U)EFI whatsoever? Since my current processor doesn’t support EFI, if it is possible to do (I understand windows 8s’ requirement for UEFI is pretty intertwined with the OS itself), I would be very greatful.
