Windows Explorer ribbon UI revealed in Windows 8 build 7850

We have earlier posted that Microsoft is testing the new Ribbon UI for Windows Explorer. Today the MDL Forums user NaiveUser has unveiled it in the leaked Windows 8 build 7850. The ribbon UI in Build 7850 is still in very early stages and lot of features are currently locked. The main advantage of the ribbon UI is that users get access to additional functions and features that would otherwise be only accessible via menus.

Here are some of the screenshots of Ribbon UI

To unlock the Ribbon UI, you have to first create a key in registry file- HKEY_CLASS_ROOT\CLSID\{4F12FF5D-D319-4A79-8380-9CC80384DC08} then create a string value in this key called AppID and set its value to {9198DA45-C7D5-4EFF-A726-78FC547DFF53}

Update: We have created a tool, which would help you to unlock this and other features with a click. You can download the tool from here.

    Ribbon is one of the more uglyest and bad designed interface I have ever seen. Its difficult to have all buttons vissible in a interface that makes so difficult to find them even when the dawm button is in front your nose, and ribbon does exactly that. I really hope they dont use that thing in explorer, or at least give the option to remove it.

    The ribbon is good in programs that have lots of functions like Office, Paint, etc. Windows Explorer doesn’t need it. Keep it simple stupid.

    Windows 8′s Ribbon UI is not getting a good impression on me. Seems like unnecessary button clutters. Spreading out those buttons (that should really belong in categories like “file” “view” “tools”) is a no-go for me. The other thing I cringe on this is the orange circles. Which I guess only turns orange when the action is available I guess… but still. Windows 8 better be a damn good successor of Windows 7 to get my wallet out. Still, it is in its beta stages. I shouldn’t be to quick to judge it.

      the orange circles are placeholders.
