Microsoft has been long supporting Windows XP on netbooks, but after October 22, 2010, OEM system builders will no longer be able to manufacture netbook PCs that run Windows XP. Here is what the Microsoft partner’s page read-
Windows XP End of Sale Coming October 22, 2010
After October 22, 2010, OEM system builders will no longer be able to manufacture netbook PCs that run Windows XP. Consider this when you make manufacturing and assortment decisions. And inform customers that many OEMs currently produce netbook PCs that run Windows 7.
Note: If you are running the 64-bit edition of Windows XP with SP2, you are eligible to receive Microsoft support and updates until April 8, 2014. There is no SP3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP.
To find out whether you are running the 64-bit version of Windows XP, go to the Start menu, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. If you don’t see 64-bit listed, then you’re running the 32-bit version and you should install Windows XP SP3.
While Windows Vista wont be available as retail package from October 22,2010 and OEM system builders will no longer be able to manufacture PCs that run Windows Vista from October 22,2011 .
